Surf - Wyandotte chick, is called surf after the deceased "Roxy" as in Roxy Surf..

Meet the chicks, 4 out of 5 hatched, last was fully formed but dead in shell :( there are 3 Silkie x Wyandotte chicks and one pure Wyandotte chick.

We have chicks!!

2 hatched and dry now, 3 we can hear peeping or feel moving in shells...

Delia, being white, was getting rather grubby so we decided that a bath was in order. We got baby shampoo, towels and gloves assemled and set about it....

New project..

Well it looks like the poultry fair has inspired a new project...look out for Cathy's Field Ducks coming to a blog near you soon!

Horrid day

One of our dogs, Cleo, got into the free range pen and killed 2 chickens - Roxy & my newly purchased Picasso. We're hoping that the eggs from Roxy that we already had under our broody silkie will hatch and we'll get to keep a little bit of her alive. We're also looking for a pair of pekin hens to fill the gap a little.

We went to a poultry fiar at Longstone today, not really knowing what to expect...well it was massive, and we picked up a new trio while we were there; so meet...

Broody update

12-13 days to go...

She's been moved to her own broody coop as another hen (Delia) has gone broody too and is attacking her. Still sittign tight!

On a different note...we're off to the local poultry fair this weekend...hen shopping!
